this is so frustrating! finally it seems that i'm going to be able to post again - although it is still telling me something weird behind the scenes. lots of stuff going on around here. too much to catch up. just going on from here. we had harvest day last weekend (isn't that funny.... i said no catching up and that's the first thing i do!) looky!
isn't that fun!?! we followed some simple instructions we found on the internet and planted 'eye pieces' of a sweet potato. and voila! just like magic - a few months later, we have our very own itty crop of sweet taters! not a bad little harvest for first timers think i'll leave it here.... don't want to push my luck on getting an actual post in - crossing my fingers and clicking 'post'... |

my baby V is home with the tummy ucks today. we've spent the morning on the couch looking at books and watching sesame street. he ate a few graham crackers and i told him to lay down and get a little nap. after a small protest, he says "fine, i'll lay down...but i am NOT going to sleep"
"okay, baby, but i need you to just let your body rest."
"i'm tellin' you, i'm not taking a nap." okay baby....sweet pie
my X just turned 6. so hard to believe. i've got to spend the rest of the afternoon readying goodie bags and such for his upcoming party saturday afternoon. now that i have the time, because V is .... sleeping. but we won't tell him that.
oh, one of hubby's cousins is expecting his first baby. it's a pink one, so i am knitting her a sweater...
so far:
front and back with sleeve1 on the needles. and yes, you do spy a misocrafty sock (or, in my case, baby sweater) tote in the back... |

now, they're vivariums! but i'm a bit worried. anyone with great knowledge of snails? there is one in each of my terrarium jars. one of them also has a bizarre tiny centipede type thing...i'm a little freaked of this as well. okay, so back to the snails. J named the one in this container bob. bob used to be very small. bob is not at all so tiny anymore. his little shell is about 1/2" wide now. i thought it'd be pretty cool having him... but now, is he going to kill my baby tears? they are starting to look a little shabby. the snail in the other one, dubbed joey by X, is a mere 2mm. itty itty itty.
he can stay for a while. X is the one who discovered him. and has staked claim. also, joey's enclosure has started to grow fungi! what? it's all pretty crazy and amazing to see the different things happen. i'm hoping to get some live moss. NONE, not one of the 12 greenhouses in my area carry it. no pet stores sell live moss, either. i'm bummed. somebody want to mail me some moss??? it doesn't grow in these here parts of Texas. humph.
a friend of mine is growing baby #2! it's not yet certain whether the baby will be pink or blue... so, i've started the blanket in a neutral green. but it's a good green. kind of a cross between olive and kelly. the plan is to make several blocks in different textures and colors and then stitch them up. i hope it will look as good as i imagine it.....
awww, look at my joshy. crazy puppy |

i don't know why i haven't done this before. i know, i know, bad mom. a few days ago i took the kidlets to the library. they got their very own library cards. the only requirement is that you are able to write your name. so even little V got one.

they were each allowed to check out 4 books. E, of course, has already gobbled up 3 of hers and is about half way through the last. i've read X and V their books about a gamillion times. J has read the smallest of his, and started the 2nd last night. i'm looking forward to taking them back for returns and new check-outs.
my X is home sick, again! poor baby. he's got the barfs. blech. a mom's favorite thing. oh, tomorrow, i'll show you pics of my new terrariums

the sun has spent the day behind grey clouds. the wind is blowing cold air. another crap day for spring break. but the girl has made good use of the weather. she's reading the classics illustrated version of treasure island. so is J, and just let me tell you, he is not at all impressed that she has gotten further in the book. since friday afternoon, she has sped through Beverly Cleary's 'Socks', Heidi (CI) and now 1/2 of Treasure Island (CI). she just loves to read. which is really a wonderful thing...except when i go up to check on them before heading to bed at 10:45 and find her, not sleeping in her bed, but all comfied out in her closet with the door shut (so i wouldn't notice the light), so engrossed that it took her a good 5 seconds before she even realized i'd opened the door. really, i'm glad she's a bookworm, but the girl needs to sleep!
oh, and yesterday's secret project:
looks cute, right!?

wouldn't you just know it? first day of spring break. just look at the weather!

yuck. it's wet and dreary. looks like the sun took a break, too. i sure hope it gets better as the week moves on. i'd hate for the kidlets to be stuck inside the entire break. seriously, you have no idea how much i'd hate that. ummm - for them, i mean... of course. alrighty, i've got to run... i'm supposed to have a project completed and photographed by this afternoon.... nothing like the last minute but hey, this time, it's not my fault. there was VERY short notice. |

icky sickies are running untame in my house! my poor babies just won't get well! X and V just can't seem to get over this freaky fever they have. sometimes motrin will bring it down, and other times it won't. very weird. X said something really funny....but first, the back story:
my children still climb into my bed at night. yes, even the 9y/o - although not very often any more. hubby and i only have a full, so by morning it's ummmm full! we've begged, pleaded and even threatened. now, we've moved on to bribes. i know, i know.......shhh! it's a "reward system". that's a little more pc, eh? gum, candy, books, money - whatever we can find! so, at the dinner table every night, we hand out the brib...errr reward for not getting into our bed the night before. yes, horribly mean to hand out goodies while the others are watching. yes, sometimes there are tears. i know, i know, what kind of a mother am i? letting these poor babes sit there and cry? causing it even! but hey, it's working! not every night, but even one complete night of sleep is success to me! ok, so on to the funny: as i got into my bed, next to my sweet X (don't you remember- i told you he is sick!), he opened his eyes, and in a precious little sleep whisper, he says to me "this does NOT count for my prize tomorrow. i have a fever." sweet pie. and now, yarn: this is a 'little' shawl i knit for my nannie for Christmas.
i think the yarn was called cara mia? i'm not sure. it's been too long. anyway, here is the pattern.
i added a crochet shell to dress up the edges a bit.
it was a very easy knit, not all that quick... although it probably would have been for someone who is faster than me.... any way, i enjoyed making it. my nannie enjoyed receiving it - the reward for my work . i hope it keeps her warm on chilly mornings
